Orthodontic treatment can be very beneficial, especially because it helps you reach the smile you have always wanted. Although the orthodontic journey can be long, there are a few things you can do to make it easier. These things involve having a good relationship with your braces. Dr. Lara Perry and our dental team are happy to help you do just that by giving you the tips you need!
Our first tip is to brush and floss regularly. This is important because your braces strap bacteria and food particles, which can, first, create an embarrassing food-filled smile and, second, promote tooth decay and gum disease. So, please brush and floss after each meal and snack.
Our second tip is to avoid eating hard and sticky foods that can damage your appliance, like toffee, caramel, gum, and popcorn. It’s best to avoid eating them altogether. If you don’t, your brackets, wires, and bands can be broken and fractured, which can result in delayed treatment results.
Our third tip is to chew with your back teeth. Using your front teeth can peel the brackets off your teeth and even damage the wire. This is because the brackets can’t handle the pressure. So, if possible, please cut the foods you eat into small pieces and then chew them with the back teeth.
