If you’ve ever experienced a dental emergency, you understand that they can be stressful. But if you understand what you should do during an emergency, you will be able to reduce the amount of stress you experience. With this in mind, do you know what you should do if a filling falls out?

Your filling could become dislodged for a number of reasons, and you may not be able stop a filling from falling out. For instance, if you bite down on a hard food, you could lose your filling. Newer fillings are typically stronger than old fillings and less likely to fall out. You can also reduce the likelihood of your teeth falling out by practicing good oral hygiene.

If you do lose a filling, there are a number of steps you should take. For example, we recommend scheduling an appointment with our dentist as soon as possible. But losing a filling can cause pain and discomfort, and painkillers could help in the meantime. You can also place a piece of sugarless gum in the cavity. Please remember to choose sugarless gum since a gum with sugar could cause pain. You can also use over-the-counter dental cement to temporarily hold your filling in place.
